Bespoke Hardwood Trellis.

The clients requested that I build them some strong trellis to finish off a wall they were having built to secure their parking area in Chelsea.  They specifically wanted Ipè for its strength and durability as I'd built them a balcony deck some years previously.

Each piece of timber for this project had to be individually sized, planed, and sanded from available stock boards.

Freshly Cut Ipe

Freshly Cut Ipe

One of the hardest woods on earth, this stuff isn't kind to saw blades or other edged tools.

Planing Cut Timber

The marks left from cutting the individual Strips of timber were planed , then sanded smooth.

4 meters long stock boards were used to produce the cross pieces in the trellis. A good amount of sawing.

Planed and sanded Ipe.

After planing and sanding, the wood is so dense it can take on a sheen
