Gravesend Renovation
A renovation of a good sized garden in Gravesend. The Decking is from Q Decks Colour Washed Range. The colour is impregnated into the timber rather than painted on, and should last considerably longer.
We started with the area immediately outside the new extension by digging into the slope and creating a level deck which would act like an extension of the kitchen. A seat with a screen behind it was incorporated into the build, and a cladded low level sleeper wall was built to retain the soil in the garden.
About a year later I was asked to return to deal with the rest of the garden.
Three large stumps were removed, and the overhanging trees pruned back. The garden was then rotovated and levelled, with a break in the lawn level closer to the shed.
The path was tided up and the lawn retained to stop it from encroaching.
To soften the prefabricated shed I built a planter in front of it so that the client could train climbing plants across the wall on wire. I also clad the rather harsh looking concrete steps.

![]() Digging InDigging down & into the garden slope to allow room for airflow under the deck joists and get the finished level close to that of the kitchen floor. |
![]() Finished Deck & Retaining WallThe Q Deck Pebble Grey closely matched the kitchen floor, so it almost feels like a continuation of the kitchen outside. |

![]() ClearingJust starting to clear away the unwanted overgrown shrubs. |
![]() Garage Planter & Raised LawnThe garage being so much higher than the garden was an issue. To get around it and make the area more useable I introduced a break in the level across the lawn at the height of the first concrete slab. |

![]() StumpedWith no access for getting a stump grinder in this had to be done the hard way. |

![]() DetailsSome detailed shots from the deck build. Initially the sleeper was wasn't going to be clad so everything had to fit neatly for a good finish. |

![]() Working LateIn the winter the dark creeps up on & you before you know it you're packing tools away by floodlight. |
![]() BracingThe cladding continues around in order to hide the untidy gap between the extension & the neighbours fence. The angle is because its acting like a brace for the privacy screen behind. |
